How does mould form in the bathroom?

Mold in the bathroom occurs in places most exposed to moisture. The most common causes of mold in the bathroom are:

  • poor ventilation,
  • poor heating,
  • freezing of the walls in the building,
  • poor insulation,
  • improper tile installation,
  • bad joints,
  • poor location of bathtubs, shower trays and shower stalls.

To minimize the formation of mold in the bathroom, it is worth installing a mechanical ventilator, which will assist gravitational ventilation. It is also worth installing window and door ventilators equipped with a hygroregulated grille in the bathroom.

Places where mold appears are:

  • the shower,
  • on the connection between the bathtub and the wall,
  • on grout and silicone.

Removing mould from joints

The best way to get rid of mold is to remove the moldy part of the grout, then dry the area and spray with a fungicide, and finally put new grout. Removing infected grout is a very labor intensive activity that requires knowledge and experience.

Home remedies for removing mold in the bathroom

Removing mold with homemade ways requires a lot of effort, but these are natural ways that do not have negative effects on the health of the household.

Baking powder

Baking powder is a great cleaning agent. Just pour a small amount on the stained surface and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Then remove with a sponge or cloth.

Vinegar

Vinegar is a natural remedy for removing mold and mildew. To remove mold from grout, silicone and cabin doors, prepare a solution of water and vinegar – 2:1 ratio. Then wash the infected surfaces.

Vinegar solution with baking soda

If mold remains despite the use of a vinegar solution, it is worth wiping the area with a solution of water and vinegar with baking soda. Prepare a solution of water and vinegar (1:1 ratio), add baking soda to the prepared solution so that it forms a thick paste. The resulting paste should be applied to the affected area. Wait about 30 minutes and remove it with clean warm water.

Toothpaste

Toothpaste has a very wide range of uses. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to the grout or silicone surface and let it sit for a few minutes. Then clean the area with a hard-bristled toothbrush.

Dishwashing liquid

A good quality dishwashing liquid removes a variety of stains. Apply a little dishwashing liquid to the areas with mold. Then clean with a toothbrush.

Lemon juice

To remove small lesions, simply apply the juice squeezed from half a lemon and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Then scrub with a hard-bristled toothbrush and rinse with warm water.

Bleach for fabrics

To remove mold from various surfaces in the bathroom, a solution made from:

  • 1/3 cup bleach,
  • ½ cup of washing powder,
  • 4 l of warm water.

The solution should be used to rinse the affected areas.

Toilet liquid

A proven and effective way to remove mould is liquid toilet cleaner. Just apply it on the affected areas and leave for at least 2 hours. After that time, remove it with warm water – this should be done wearing protective gloves.

Ammonia and soda solution

To prepare the solution you will need

  • 2/3 cup of ammonia,
  • 2 teaspoons of soda.

All the ingredients should be mixed in a spray bottle and applied to the affected area, leave for an hour. After this time, scrub with a toothbrush, and then pour clean water.

Chemical remedies for removing mold in the bathroom

You can find chemical remedies for removing mold and mildew in the bathroom in stores. These formulations do not damage the cleaned surface and effectively remove mold, preventing it from growing again.
