The process of choosing the right mattress is not the easiest. You have to make decisions about the material, filling, size and firmness. Since every person has different needs and preferences, there is a huge variety of products on the market. It turns out that one of the most important factors that affects comfort is hardness. See how to easily read the hardness markings on mattresses.

Distinctive marks

Every decent mattress manufacturer uses a standardized designation of the mattress firmness level. For this purpose, the notations used are: H1, H2, H3, H4. This is extremely helpful, as it allows you to pinpoint exactly who the mattress will be most suitable for. It gives a precise indication of for which user’s body weight a particular firmness will be the best and healthiest support. The principle is simple:

H1 will work well for lightweight people who weigh less than 60 kg.

H2 is a good choice with a weight of 60-80 kg. It is firmer than H1 and is one of the most common choices in Poland, due to its fairly universal hardness level.

H3 mattresses they are even harder than their predecessors. They provide excellent support for people weighing 80-100 kg. This is a common choice for those who prefer firmer sleeping surfaces. If someone is looking for a medium firmness level that perfectly supports the spine, choosing an H3 mattress will be a good solution.

H4 are the hardest of the previously mentioned suggestions. They give the best support and comfort for people weighing over 100 kg. For heavier people, H3, H2 and H1 mattresses may prove to be too soft. In such a situation, the spine will not receive sufficient support, which can result in pain.

Why is firmness so important?

Firmness is by far the most noticeable parameter in mattresses. A lot depends on our personal preferences. Some people prefer softer mattresses and will be more likely to opt for H1 or H2 options. Others on the other hand will sooner reach for harder versions of mattresses H3 or H4. It is worth remembering, however, that it is not just about personal taste. These labels have been created to determine for whom a given firmness provides the most benefits. A mattress that is too soft will not be able to support the proper, healthiest sleeping posture. The same goes for an option that is too firm. A mattress that is too firm will not allow for optimal adjustment to the shape of the body and may not be very comfortable. It’s worth taking our body weight into account when making this decision, so we can enjoy a healthy spine and the greatest comfort of sleep.

Where to look for help?

Deciding on the level of firmness may not be easy. In order to make sure whether the intended parameter suits us, it is worth visiting specialist stores. At the stores of the Polish manufacturer JMB Design, you can get acquainted with various firmnesses and find out the difference between the feel of an H3 mattress and an H2 or H1 mattress. The ability to test specific models is a great comfort. Professional expert support during the search is an additional advantage. It is worth taking advantage of this opportunity to make the right decision and enjoy a comfortable sleep thanks to a well-fitted firmness level.
